Audi to unveil Vail CUV concept in Detroit

Audi CEO Rupert Stadler slipped up while talking to Bloomberg, telling the financial pub that in addition to the 2013 A4 and A4 AllRoad, a small crossover concept will debut at the Detroit Auto Show next week.

Stadler didn’t give up anything in the way of details, but the concept will be dubbed the “Vail” and could be a way to gauge reception of a smaller Audi CUV in the States.

If we had to guess, the Vail will feature an Allroad-like treatment on the Euro-only Q3, likely involving a higher ride height, plastic body treatments and a more go-anywhere attitude. We’ll know for sure in a few days, but we hope that’s not all Audi has planned.

Growing tired of lagging behind its rivals in the increasingly competitive luxury wars, Infiniti is getting serious about a number of things: the European market, for one, sports cars, for another, and finally, alternative propulsion. And based on those drives, the premium Nissan division is preparing to unveil a new hybrid sports car concept at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show this March.

Very little in the way of details have been released as part of the announcement, with the press release indicating only that the concept will be a “highly advanced, range-extending electric sports car concept.” Check out the aforementioned release after the jump, but not before you check out the pair of teaser shots which we’ve placed in the gallery for your consideration.

Gordon Murray and Toray unveil electric T-Wave AR1 concept

Toray Industries, a multinational corporation headquartered in Japan that specializes in industrial fibers and textiles, has teamed with world-renowned designer Gordon Murray to dream up the T-Wave AR1, a two-seat electric concept that showcases Toray’s carbon fiber expertise.

Toray says the T-Wave AR1 can hit speeds of up to 91 miles per hour and has a range of around 115 miles. Although it’s nothing more than a concept, Toray claims the T-Wave could be modified for on-road use.

The T-Wave’s extensive use of carbon fiber keeps weight to a minimum (1,865 pounds), and its carbon fiber monocoque makes it Superman strong. Toray says the AR1′s frame is roughly ten times as rugged as a steel equivalent and that it can absorb 2.5 times more energy during a collision. The T-Wave will get an official debut at the Toray Advanced Materials Symposium at the Tokyo International Forum on September 14.
