Now here’s a quandary; What do inane pop beats and the Steve McQueen classic Bullitt have in common? If you answered less than the Cub Scouts and the Hells Angels, congratulations, we owe you a beer. Why do we ask? Our friends at The J managed to stumble across the music video for Sharam’s “Fun.” The twisted little piece of cinema has managed to shove all the patience-grating repetition that a disposable pop song can muster into a meticulous recreation of the Dodge Charger vs. Ford Mustang battle from Bullitt.

It’s the emotional equivalent of a brake stand. Our eyes are begging to see more while our ears are doing their best to cut themselves from the sides of our skull. We don’t suggest trying to wrap your mind around exactly what’s going on here. Instead, mute the volume and enjoy one of the more accurate recreations of the Bullitt chase in music video history after the jump.

If you can’t stand to sit there in the quiet, there’s always the magic of YouTube doubler. It goes without saying that you’ll need to mute “Fun.”

Hold onto your hubcaps. One very devoted enthusiast in the UK has set about reenacting one of the most famous car chases in the history of internal combustion – the Ford Mustang versus Dodge Charger battle in Bullitt – with a bit of a twist. Instead of taking to the streets of San Francisco, artist Emigre has decided to film the whole thing in stop-motion on a 1/32 scale slot car track, complete with a handmade San Francisco background to match. There’s an obscene attention to detail in everything from the sidewalks to the cars themselves and the audio from the chase lines up nicely with what’s been created so far.

The finished product is set to debut later this year, but for now, Emigre has been so kind as to show off a quick teaser for the flick. There are burnouts, the rumble and bark of two meaty V8s and two very stern-looking bad guys just waiting to give Frank Bullitt a run for his money. Hit the jump to check out the clip for yourself.

Hyundai‘s Curb concept moves the automaker’s “Fluidic Sculpture” design language in a more youthful direction. While we’ve seen plenty of urbanized concepts and production vehicles that use the traditional box-like design pioneered by the original Scion xB, Hyundai chose to create something substantially more curvaceous and sleek. “We wanted the Curb to be urban tough without looking like a Brink’s truck,” Hyundai’s designer, Jason Brown, says.

The basis for the Curb’s powertrain is Hyundai’s new 1.6-liter Gamma inline-four, though the addition of a turbocharger means output is boosted to around 175 horsepower. Combined with a dual-clutch transmission, the Curb is efficient enough to achieve around 30 miles per gallon in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. That power runs to the ground through a large set of 22-inch five-spoke wheels wrapped in Michelin tires with a custom saffron-colored tread pattern. Funky, yes, but definitely fitting for an urban concept car.

Other forward-thinking exterior design elements include exhaust vents that open to reveal a bike rack, a pop-up roof rack and a third rear access door for easier ingress and egress to the rear seats.

The interior features a large acrylic screen that allows information to be passed between all of the passengers inside the Curb, and a heads-up display provided by Continental shows navigation information as well as screens for the cameras used in place of side mirrors. Saffron interior accents compliment the tire tread, and three-holded A-pillars increase the driver’s cornering visibility. Hyundai’s new Blue Link technology is used to keep owners connected with their electronic systems at all times, as well.

It’s all very funky and hip, and we’d like to see this sort of design come to live as a sub-Tucson urban utility vehicle. Follow the jump for Hyundai’s official press release and stay tuned for live images direct from the Detroit show floor.

We’re going to go ahead and say it: of all of the companies out there, few demonstrate a command of the concept car quite like Mazda. While most manufacturers seem to be eschewing the concept in favor of thinly-veiled production vehicles, Mazda continues to tantalize the imaginations of onlookers with cars like the Furai. Now, it looks like the company is planning to turn away from its somewhat controversial (read: smiley) Nagare design language in favor of a new theme. Mazda is calling it Kodo, meaning “soul of motion,” and if the Shanari Concept is any indication of what we can expect from future models, we’re sold.

Mazda has just rolled out a couple of videos that show off the company’s new look. The first features a CG Shanari rolling through crowded city streets, tunnels and the rolling tarmac of what we assume to be the Japanese countryside. The second gives us an idea of what a Kodo-fied Mazda3 might look like. Hit the jump for a quick look see.
