Yesterday, Land Rover released the first image and details (however few) of the new DC100 concept it’s bringing to Frankfurt, and it carries with it the promise of the next-generation Defender – an off-roader so accomplished and so ubiquitous that calling it the Sir Edmund Hillary (or Tenzing Norgay) of automobiles wouldn’t even be doing it justice.

Now, LR has dropped a second shot of the DC100, showing us the front end and what she’ll look like traversing the old rocky road. But that’s not all we’ve got to go with. Because nature abhors a vacuum, more speculative renderings were bound to pop up, and our friends over at Kilometer magazine have stepped up to fill the void.

The Defender, you see, has long come in different bodystyles, of which the three-door hardtop form taken up by the DC100 is only one. So the KM guys have stretched out the wheelbase, added a couple of doors, even chopped the roof short to leave an open short-bed. Audi didn’t release any additional information the on the Audi Urban Concept today, but it did let loose a photo rendering album of the e-tron-branded concept in coupe and roadster forms that we’ll soon get to know in Frankfurt. Powered by two electric motors, the driver and passenger will get to their staggered seating positions through the tailgate, and can let the sun shine in through the sliding canopy once there if they’re in the coupe.

We look forward to finding out if all this is as funky in person as it is in print. Until then, there’s that bunch of photos to check out in the high-res gallery.

Volkswagen recently revealed the production version of its dimunitive Up! ahead of its Frankfurt Motor Show reveal, and the Internet is already buzzing with probable varieties of the stylish subcompact. PS-Garage.com designer Seljakboy (A.K.A. Ivan Martinović) turned in his own interpretation of a hotted-up version, the Up! GTI.

First impressions? We like what we’re looking at, and we hope Volkswagen takes a peek as well. The wheels, black and red trim and center-mounted exhaust outlets in the back all give the standard Up! a visual punch that would look perfect on a sporty version. Chrysler has no plans (at least, none that we’re aware of) that involve bringing a 200 wagon to market. If those plans change, we think the automaker should look towards Theophilus Chin for inspiration. We’ve seen Chin’s renderings before, and his take on the 200 wagon suggests that the family hauler would also be a pretty decent looker, particularly as it forgoes the sedan’s awkward greenhouse in favor of a more traditional form.

Chin takes on the rendering from both front and rear angles, and you can take a closer look at each by clicking through the gallery.

The BMW 6 Series Coupe Concept appears to have separated the audience into camps called “OMG BMW what have you done?” and “OMG BMW is back!” If there are any of you left on the fence looking for a closer look before you sign up to one of those clubs, here are high-definition renderings of the concept without and within.

Of course, they’re still renderings so you can reserve final final judgement, but you’ll see how the exterior light elements work and get clues to interior details.
