Or in this case, real planes smashing into real cars. Call us old fashioned, but Computer-Generated Imagery has all but ruined film and advertising. In the old days, you’d have to actually find a way to breed human-sized hamsters and teach them to drive a Kia Soul if you wanted a set of Hamstars to peddle your wares. Now we just turn to our computer graphics department and ask them to make it happen. Why is that such a bad thing, you ask? Look no further than this classic ad for the Peugeot 205 GTI.

Not only does this old clip feature the French hatch bouncing down the side of a snowy mountain and dashing across a frozen lake, there are explosions, a full-size cargo plane skimming mere feet from the Pug’s roof and plenty of sliding around in the powder. James Bond would be proud. What does all of this tell us about the 205 GTI? Not a damn thing, and that’s fine by us. Hit the jump for a look at the clip.

Top Gear showed us just how sturdy the Toyota Hilux pickup truck can be. The plucky Brit trio put one poor truck through a series of increasingly harder challenges until they finally strapped it to the roof of a building destined to be demolished. After pulling it off the pile of rubble that used to be an apartment building, the Hilux was eventually started up, and later driven into the Top Gear studio. Needless to say, this is one tough truck we’re talking about here.

Toyota knows its latest Hilux is tough, too, and the automaker has decided to play up this angle for a new series of commercial spots running in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Seeking to show just how unbreakable and manly its pickup is, the machine is put through its paces over hill and dale, from the desert to the top of snow-capped mountains… and it meets some strange blokes along the way.

It’s also so manly that it even makes dainty women into something barely removed from… well, her husband. Click past the jump to see for yourself.

JG Francis is an man who knows a lot about the older products in the Mercedes-Benz family. He owns Los Angeles-based Mercedes Motoring, which is where Francis turns wrenches on classic tri-stars and breathes new life back into the lumbering German coupes, sedans and wagons. Sometimes Francis will travel far to bring a new project back to his California shop, and his pal Sean always seems ready to make the trek with him.

The duo’s latest conquest was a 1969 240 D sedan that was located all the way up in Fairbanks, Alaska. After 10 days and 4,000 miles, the men and their machine arrived back in the Golden State, and were given no issues by the classic diesel four door. Mercedes-Benz put together a short video about JG Francis and his shop, and the automaker is currently editing another about his most recent roadtrip.
