Maserati has rolled out a new video to drum up anticipation for the company’s new SUV concept, the Kubang. The flick begins with images of the Italian automaker’s illustrious racing past, complete with open-wheel fire-breathers sliding across cobblestone courses and a fleet of MC-12 racers blowing past exuberant fans. That’s all well before the portly, computer-generated Kubang saunters onto the screen. We’ll be clear here; we understand that occasionally, automakers need to bow to the tides of popular demand so that they can keep cranking out the vehicles we love the most. It works for Porsche. We get it, but this seems to be a bridge too far.

Maybe it’s the fact that the Kubang has a name that sounds like it was lifted from the classic El Kabong cartoon series. Maybe it’s the sight of the reaching Maserati grille supersized and splayed over the front of an SUV. Whatever it is, we’re having a hard time getting behind the machine, but we sincerely hope that a drive of it changes our mind – it did with Porsche’s Cayenne. Following the official release of a handful of sketches and an unofficial reveal of the camo’d prototype, Audi has put out a brief teaser clip of its Urban Concept ahead of its official reveal at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

We still don’t have much in the way of details – and the video doesn’t provide any new information – but what we do know is that the 1+1 EV is the next in a string of etron-branded concepts, with 21-inch wheels, two electric motors and a lithium-on battery pack. We’ll have more in a few week’s time, but until then… jump.

Last week at the Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este, BMW unleashed its lovely 328 Hommage on the world as a tribute to its legendary 1936 328, the car that still holds the fastest average speed ever achieved at the Mille Miglia. This week, they’ve pumped out a video of the car in motion, disguised as a behind-the-scenes look at its California photo shoot. As you might expect, the video just serves confirm our earlier conclusion: this car has some beautiful details.

For those who need a refresher course, here’s how the numbers break down: The 328 Hommage tips the scales at just over 1,700 pounds thanks to the use of carbon fiber-reinforced plastics. Pushing that scant poundage around is BMW’s venerated inline six, backed up by a mystery transmission. To ogle the video, click past the jump.

Pasadena, CA can get particularly hot during the summer, so we thought it was an excellent idea when the Art Center College of Design moved its annual car show from July to the middle of October. While the event, which happened last weekend, did escape the heat, it still couldn’t catch a break from Mother Nature. The inaugural autumn edition of the show was hampered by rain throughout the day.

Still, the Art Center managed to put on an excellent event to celebrate this year’s theme, “Freedom of Motion.” The best part of the show has always been the eclectic selection of cars on display, and this year was no disappointment. Everything from the 2010 X-Prize winning Peraves X-Tracer to the new 2011 McLaren MP4-12C could be seen on the grass. The Mullin Museum was gracious enough to bring out the famous 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic, and the Petersen brought out a few of its cars as well.
