Reality is bound by realistic parameters, but fantasy is not. So while there’s only so much space in our actual living rooms for everything we’d like to fit in there, in the Autoblog Fantasy Living Room, space is not an issue. There we can fit everything from Aston Martin couches to engine block coffee tables. And we just might round it all out with an item or two from the new Fiat 500 Design Collection.

The items are designed after the original Fiat 500 and crafted as furniture by the innovative interior design company Meritalia in collaboration with Lapo Elkann, the Fiat chairman’s brother tipped as a potential future chairman of Ferrari. The collection includes three pieces: the Picnic table (shown above), the Cin Cin bar counter and the Panorama sofa. Each replicates the front end of the original Cinquecento and is available in red, white, green or black. Test driving an electric car at an automaker’s media event is one thing. Taking one home and living with it is a completely different experience. Nissan just loaned me a Leaf for several days and I came away with a new appreciation for the potential pitfalls and rewards of owning an EV.

First off, I really liked the Leaf. It’s a nice, comfortable car with more than adequate power, it’s unbelievably quiet and offers a decent driving range. In fact, it’s been a long time since I was this excited to bring a test car home. But it wasn’t always a shiny, smiley, happy experience.

Let me state unequivocally: if you can only recharge from a 110-volt outlet, the Leaf is not for you. Not if you have a hefty commute and only own one car, that is.

One of the biggest surprises (so far…) of the 2010 LA Auto Show has to be the Subaru Impreza Design Concept that snuck up on us just a few hours ago. Some thought it might be the long-awaited Subota coupe (a close cousin of the Toyobaru, of course), but in reality what we have here is a conceptual sedan that the Japanese automaker claims will heavily influence future models… namely the Impreza, we’d wager.

Yes, there’s a working 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine bolted to a CVT gearbox behind that shapely new front grille and its massive side vents, but it’s the styling we’re really intrigued by.
