That’s a wrap, folks. Press days for the 2012 Detroit Auto Show have come and gone, meaning there’s just one thing left to do: pick our favorites.

As we said in our end-of-show wrap-up, the Detroit show is back in full force after several years of being stuck in first gear in the wake of a stagnant auto industry and a horrid economic climate. This year, though, automakers from the United States, Asia and Europe all had impressive production and concept vehicles to show off. After tallying our votes, these are our five favorites.

Factory Five hosted a contest to find a new design for its upcoming 818 sports car. The call went out to designers from around the globe, and winners have been crowned. The top dog goes by the name Nouphone Bansasi, and his hard work netted him ,000.

The 818 sportscar is going to be Factory Five’s next project. Designers needed to adhere to a few guidelines as part of the contest. The production vehicle will utilize a Subaru WRX donor car, stick to a 95-inch wheelbase, seat two people, work with a mid-engine/rear-drive configuration and weigh no more than 818 kilograms (1,800 pounds, and hence the name).

Many entered, and the designs are pretty impressive. Bansasi took the the top spot, but many received recognition for their work. You can check out the top creative creations in the gallery below. Oh, and not that anyone asked us, but we’re kinda partial to the design by Romain Ferrands, which is included in our gallery.

This five-minute clip condenses all the glitzy highlights of this year’s show into one horsepower-drenched summary. The show was a seriously drool-worthy affair, featuring a wide range of exotics; from classy, composed offerings from the likes of Aston Martin, to the delicious Pagani Huayra to the completely silly Tirrito Ayrton R.

High-end tuning companies always make a strong showing at Top Marques Monaco, and this year was no different. Gemballa’s two new offerings, the Tornado and the Mistrale, broke cover after the company’s recent troubles.
