Around this time last year, Jaguar unveiled the incredible C-X75 Concept at the Paris Motor Show. With four electric motors and two micro-gas turbines powering all four wheels, we knew the C-X75 had little chance of going to production – at least in concept form – let alone finding a place in our own garages.

Fast-forward a year later, and it’s an entirely different theme at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Earlier today, Jaguar revealed the C-X16 Concept here in Germany ahead of its auto show debut tomorrow, and we were on-hand to take it all in.

Unlike the C-X75, the C-X16 is most definitely headed for production and could actually be fairly affordable. Although it looks like a replacement for the aging XK, it isn’t. In fact, a version of the C-X16 will actually slot below the XK to battle smaller sporty coupes like the Porsche Cayman. Under the hood of the concept is a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 producing 376 horsepower and 332 lb-ft torque, and an electric motor in the eight-speed transmission delivers another 92 horsepower and 173 lb-ft torque. Jaguar estimates that the C-X16 concept can achieve 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 186 mph.

Now here’s a question worth racking your precious brain over. If you were asked to choose between the recently unveiled De Tomaso SLC Concept and a BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo, which would you park in your driveway? If you chose a used Audi RS6 Avant, congratulations, you just made our holiday card list.

Still, it’s difficult not to draw comparisons between the recently unveiled De Tomaso and the awkwardly-proportioned 5-Series family hauler. Both vehicles have managed to meld the crossover and sedan realms in a way that few other vehicles have.

While we’ve already been privy to a few photos of the De Tomaso SLC Concept, a video of the vehicle has now made its way to the internets. The quick clip gives us a slightly better look at what the vehicle will bring to the table when it gets an official unveil early next month at the Geneva Motor Show. The internet is afire with word that BMW is planning to bring a small convertible concept to the 2011 Geneva Motor Show next month. According to The Age, the car may be our first look at what the company has planned for a sub-Z4 model designed to spar with the Mazda MX-5 and the host of shared-platform convertibles that the Volkswagen army is rumored to be slaving over. A representative from BMW supposedly confirmed that a baby drop top will be the company’s star attraction in Geneva this year.

BMW, meanwhile, says that the concept car itself will not go into production, but that some elements of the design may show up in future products down the line. The Age is reporting that the concept will make use of some fairly outrageous design cues, including the retractable doors of the ever-awesome Z1.

Murkier still is what kind of drivetrain will find its way under the concept’s hood. This could be a good excuse for BMW to start strutting its new front-wheel-drive bent or even to play around with a compact hybrid set up. Either way, we’ll find out in a few short weeks. Thanks for the tip, Mark!
