General Motors continues to celebrate Chevy’s 100th anniversary with a new tribute video to the company’s long truck lineage. Chevrolet started producing pickups in 1918 with the 490 Light Delivery and hasn’t stopped since. We’re a little disappointed to see that the video glosses over tasty hardware like the 1956 Chevrolet Apache and the ever-attractive 1967 Chevrolet Suburban, but beggars can’t be choosers. The clip does spend some time with the Blazer, including some fantastic vintage footage of the utility bouncing along a dusty trail with its top off.

Unfortunately, the video is served up with the dryness of a middle-school health documentary, so don’t expect too much in terms of entertainment. Fans of the brand and truck geeks will likely find plenty to salivate over, however. Click past the jump to check the video out for yourself.

General Motors is celebrating the Chevrolet Centennial this year – and treating us to some nice historical footage, like this three-minute video celebrating the Bowtie brand’s motorsports heritage. While Chevy’s racing involvement in recent years has been mostly focused on NASCAR and its Corvette Le Mans program, the marque enjoys a wealth of history in almost every racing series.

Among the treats in this promotional piece are a few seconds of Bruce Larson’s USA-1 Camaro Funny Car and Jim Hall’s famous Chaparral 2 sports car, vintage NASCAR action from the era in which the term “stock car” still meant something, and there’s a mention of Juan Manuel Fangio’s stint as a Chevy driver in 1940. Of course, patron saint of Chevy Racing, Dale Earnhardt makes an appearance, as well.

Although the video teases us with some cool old footage, it also relies on still photography and the “Ken Burns effect” – a lot. It would be great to see some more racing clips and less static shots of cars like the 1978 Indianapolis 500 Corvette Pace Car. In fact, we’d love to see GM commission a longer documentary about Chevrolet’s racing history, one without as much heavy handed promotion of the company’s current products. The 95th running of the Indianapolis 500 this May represented the 100th Anniversary of “The Greatest Spectacle In Racing.” The unbroken streak halted a total of five years during our involvement with the two World Wars. It’s hard to believe we’ve had this legendary race for that long, but the centennial was certainly deserving of recognition – and although perhaps a bit incongruous to some, it was celebrated in grand style at no less than the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. As America’s premier race, why not have America’s – and perhaps the world’s – premier classic car event host the festivities?

A large class of past Indy winners and notable contenders gathered in Pebble Beach on Sunday. Take a look at our gallery and you will see most, if not all, of the entrants – many on rare special loan from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum:
