Every year, masses of Corvette aficionados descend upon a little town in Pennsylvania to celebrate their love of the long-running Chevrolet sports car. Here in Las Vegas at the 2011 SEMA Show, General Motors has decided to show its appreciation for the legions of Carlisle travelers with the Carlisle Blue Grand Sport Concept.

We don’t know if Chevy plans to offer this color scheme on production Corvettes, but we hope it does. The exterior is painted in a hue called Carlisle Blue, and it’s punctuated by Pearl White racing stripes and silver-painted Torque 2 wheels. We also like the Cyber Gray headlamps that are optional for 2012. What we like most, however, is the dry-sump 6.2-liter LS3 V8 under the hood. Volvo’s Concept You is long, low and wide, three of our favorite flavors when it comes to sedans. Especially of late, long-hooded four-doors with sweeping greenhouses have been hits on concept and production stages, and we’re fans. The Autoblog team is somewhat split on the nose, though, as some feel the toothy grille stretched across its width makes it look like a certain claymation character. Other AB staffers who don’t find the You’s face as objectionable are content to say it looks a bit inspired by Volvo’s long-running PV models of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. For its part, Volvo says the concept’s styling is inspired by Georg Jensen, a leading Danish design firm.

Otherwise, this is acres of hot blue Scandinavian design, and the You’s interior clearly raises the marque’s aspirations in the interior game in both craftsmanship and technology. If this is really what Volvo plans to do, then their recent talk of moving into the luxury ranks might not be misplaced. Could – and should – this be a precursor to the next S80? If you’re a Ranger fan, the video posted after the jump is going to make you sad. Ford engineers in Australia filmed the new but not-for-U.S.-consumption truck as its water wading capabilities were put to the test. The results were heaps good.

Ford’s new Ranger is available in a Hi-Rider version that’s capable of, ahem, fording through an impressive amount of water. Starting at a depth of two-inches, the engineers kept pushing until they were driving through 31.5 inches of engine-killing fluid. The two-inch deep pool is used to simulate long puddles, and the truck is run through at 19, 31 and 40 miles per hour. When filled to the max, the test area is traversed at a much slower 4 mph.

In order to achieve these results, Ford raised the air intake and alternator to a spot where they stay above the water line. Crucial components that sit lower are water-proofed. Click past the jump to see the testing in action, and be sure to read more about the Ranger in the full press release.
