What price would you pay to own a piece of history? We’re thinking that might depend on what sort of historic significance we’re talking about… or, in the case of this 1964 Cadillac Hearse, how morbid that history may be.

As you may remember, Barrett-Jackson in 2011 auctioned off a 1963 Pontiac Bonneville ambulance that some thought carried John F. Kennedy’s body to the hospital after his fatal shooting. Turns out the provenance of that machine was very much in question, and bidding stalled at just 0,000.

Following up that unimpressive sale a year prior, Barrett-Jackson decided to bring out a car who’s history was never in question: the car that carried the casket containing JFK, along with his wife, Jacqueline Kennedy, from Parkland Memorial Hospital to the airport at Love Field.

Regardless of the fact that it is known to have carried JFK’s body, it only garnered a high bid of 0,000. After fees, the new buyer will pay 6,000.00 to own this 1964 Cadillac Hearse. Check out our live images of the car at Barrett-Jackson above, and read more about it after the break.

The likelihood that you’ll ever get your hands on an original Bill Thomas Cheetah is slim, to put it mildly. The iconic early 60s sports cars are rare as hen’s teeth and priced accordingly. While the originals may be all but unattainable, replicas can be fairly readily had, though they still aren’t what you’d call cheap.

This week, there are two Bill Thomas Cheetah Continuation models on eBay Motors, one a convertible and one in coupe form. Not originals and not really replicas, these cars are about as authentic as one can hope to get without winning the lottery. In the spirit of their original Corvette roots, both sport Chevrolet V8 power, rear-wheel drive and four-speed manual transmissions. The convertible, titled as a 1965, sports a 502-inch big-block Chevrolet mill, which only has 1,700 pounds of 4130-chromoly steel and fiberglass to push around. In case that weren’t enough, the Cheetah’s wheelbase is a scant 90 inches. Sounds good to us. Buy-It-Now on the red ‘vert is a reasonable sounding ,000.

The hardtop was built in 2008, but sports a 1964 title. It’s a bit tamer, sporting a 383 stroker that the seller says is good for 350 horsepower. Not quite as hairy-chested, but more than enough to make you pretty uneasy. It also sports heat and noise insulation and a “period correct” air conditioner, apparently to compensate for the fixed windows. The frame is powder-coated, the headers are wrapped and the bodywork sports three coats of Mercedes silver. The price? How does k sound? Click the main image for a gallery of both cars.

We don’t need to tell you that automakers are constantly searching for the next iconic design. It’s why we continue to see a rash of retro looks despite manufacturers having an army of incredibly talented artists on their staff. But what makes a car strike a chord with the public that continues to resonate through time? Robert Cumberford over at Automobile has set about an in-depth design analysis of the 1964 ½ Ford Mustang. While you may know that the original design for the car came from a General Motors employee, did you know that there are design elements borrowed from the likes of Lincoln, Pontiac and MG worked into the finished product?

Yeah, neither did we.

Cumberford’s look at the pony leaves no stone unturned and helps explain why, even now, nearly 50 years after the car hit the scene, it’s still one of the most beloved designs of the American automotive industry. You never know what you’re going to find on eBay. The auction house of the interwebs routinely plays host to metal both obscure and unique – two categories the vehicle you see above satisfies without question. It’s a 1964 Pontiac XP833 Banshee Concept, and while it’s easy to think that the car is little more than a warmed over Corvette design, the truth is that this particular Poncho had widespread influence on General Motors design language for more than a decade.

Originally penned by none other than John Delorean, the Banshee was supposed to be a more sports-oriented competitor to the recently introduced Ford Mustang. Unfortunately, when the concept was completed, the higher-ups felt that the Banshee would threaten the Corvette throne and the project was scrapped. It’s a song that would be repeated time and time again in the future.

Pieces of the Banshee design would live on in cars like the C4 Corvette and Pontiac Firebird, but the actual concepts themselves were slated for destruction. Fortunately, the studies were boxed up in shipping crates and tucked away for safe keeping, eventually sold to the GM execs who had taken part in the Banshee project. This particular example has a mere 1,500 miles on the clock and sits in its original condition. It can be yours for the right price, but with almost ,000 on the auction and the reserve not met, it ain’t gonna be cheap.
